Jaishankar Deepens EU and Visegrád Ties at UNGA81 with New Diplomatic Push

Jaishankar’s discussions with EU counterparts covered cooperation, developments in the Gulf, Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific. The engagements formed part of India’s diplomatic outreach during the high-level week in New York.

He also hosted the first V4+India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, bringing together Poland’s Radosław Sikorski, Hungary’s Anita Orbán, Slovakia’s Juraj Blanár and Czech Petr Macinka. The meeting agreed on annual ministerial meetings, a business forum and deeper cooperation in technology, defense and culture.

Slovakia’s Blanár endorsed India’s bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council, describing it as essential for the Global South. The endorsement came as India continued its diplomatic engagement around its role in the UN system.

Jaishankar also co-chaired a summit focused on pushing for reformed multilateralism. The meeting added a broader global dimension to his engagements with European partners during UNGA81.

The series of meetings brought together bilateral cooperation, regional developments and discussions on reforming multilateral institutions, underlining the range of India’s diplomatic engagements during the UN General Assembly high-level week.
